Gilè rettangolare semplice - Simple rectangle vest

Ok, alza la mano chi sta su Pinterest e non ha ancora visto questo pin. [Silenzio.] In effetti, l'hanno visto tutti quanti, credo. Mi sono messa in autunno a fare questo gilè molto semplice fatto da un rettangolo di jersey di cotone con due tagli per le braccia. E basta! Solo che... la ragazza che ha creato questo progetto è decisamente più piccola di me e le aperture per le braccia erano troppo vicine. Managgia. E, facendo tirare la stoffa, cominciava a deformare/strappare le estremità dei tagli. Quindi il progetto è rimasto abbandonato parecchi mesi, fino al mese scorso, quando ho deciso di finirlo e indossarlo per il Me-Made-May'13 più freddo del previsto. (E perciò ho ancora i capelli lunghi in queste foto, che sono da 2 o 3 settimane fa.)

Ok, raise your hand if you're on Pinterest and haven't yet seen this pin. [Silence.] I think everyone's seen it. Last fall I gave this very simple vest made from a rectangle of cotton jersey with two slits for arms. And that's all it is! Except... the girl who made this is decidedly smaller than I am and the arm openings were too close together. Dangit. And, stretching the fabric slightly to fit my arms was starting to rip the ends of the cuts. So this project was abandoned for quite a few months, until last month, when I finally decided to finish it and wear it for a cooler-than-anticipated Me-Made-May'13. (Which is why I still have long hair in these pictures, which are from 2 or 3 weeks ago.)

Non ho scattato foto durante il processo, ma ecco il risultato finale. Le aperture sono uguali, anche se non sembrano qui. Il rettangolo è lungo 144 cm ed alto 70 cm. I tagli sono distanti 34 cm l'uno dall'altro (sarebbe andato meglio se fossero più distanti) e 15 cm dall'alto. Sono lunghi 25 cm. Ho dovuto aprire i tagli verso l'esterno, creando degli ovali, se no, le braccia non ci entravano bene.

I didn't take any photos in the making, but here's the end result. The arm holes are the same, even if it doesn't look that way here. The rectangle is 144 cm long and 70 cm high. The cuts are 34 cm from each other (it would've been better has they been further apart) and 15 cm from the top. They're 25 cm long. I had to open up the slits on the outer side, making ovals, to let my arms fit through better.

Il tessuto era tirato troppo dalle spalle e comunque non mi faceva impazzire lasciare i tagli così, senza finirli, considerando lo stress sul tessuto indossandolo, quindi ho aggiunto un po' di tessuto per rifinire le aperture.

The fabric was stretched out by my shoulders and in any case I didn't like leaving them cut like that, without finishing them off, considering the stress on the fabric when worn, so I added a bit of fabric onto the openings.

Vanno ancora un po' troppo dentro le ascelle, ma vanno meglio di prima!

They still go a bit too much into my armpits, but they're a lot better than before!

Ho fatto una specie di sbieco, ma non a sbieco. Cioè, ho fatto dei rettangoli di stoffa (non tagliati in obliquo come si fa per lo sbieco). Li ho piegati (e stirati) a metà per lunghezza, poi ho piegato verso l'interno i due bordi. Poi li ho cuciti intorno alle aperture come si fa con lo sbieco.

I made a sort of bias tape, but not cut on the bias. Meaning I cut out rectangles from the fabric (not cut diagonally, as you do for bias tape). I folded them (and ironed them) in half lengthwise, then folded the edged in again towards the inner fold. Then I sewed them along the openings like you do with bias tape.

Facendo così l'effetto è più finito, copre un po' di più le spalle e non mi devo preoccupare che il tessuto si strappa. Ho lasciato i bordi del rettangolo così, senza cucire, perché mi piace l'effetto arrottolato che fa. (Per tagliare questi bordi lunghi perfettamente diritti, consiglio di usare una rotellina, non i forbici.)

This way the effect is more finished off, covering more of my shoulders, and I don't have to worry about the fabric tearing. I left the edges of the rectangle as they were, without sewing, because I like the rolled effect they have. (I suggest you use a rotary blade, as opposed to scissors, to cut perfectly straight edges.)

Ed ecco la piroetta obbligatoria per la macchina fotografica! Non è perfetto, ma va benissimo lo stesso! Ora dovrò fare il prossimo gilè semplice ma questa volta, come ho trovato su Pinterest, con un cerchio interno!
