Me-Made-May '13: what I wore May 8 - 12

Ecco la continuazione della mia sfida di indossare almeno un capo e/o accessorio fatto/rifatto da me ogni giorno del mese di maggio. (Cliccate qui per la prima settimana.) C'è qualche progetto su cui non ho ancora scritto, ma spero di farlo al più presto possibile!

And here's the continuation of my challenge to wear at least one garment and/or accessory that I've made/refashioned per day of May. (Click here to see the first week.) There are a few projects here which I haven't been able to write about yet, but will do as soon as possible!

May 8:
Mia figlia ed io ci siamo vestite uguali (almeno dalla vita in giù) per la foto di questo post. Visto che stava nella foto con me e non poteva essere lei la fotografa come al solito, mi ha aiutato un'altra bimba di sei anni, la sua compagna di banco!

My daughter and I dressed the same (at least from the waist down) for this post's picture. Seeing as she was in the shot with me and couldn't be the photographer as ususal, another 6-year-old girl helped out... her best friend from school!

May 9:
Quella mattina ho portato i bimbi a scuola in un modo e li ho ripresi in un'altra. Mia sorella mi ha dato la gonna che non le andava più (figurati, era troppo grande per lei e a volte mi stringe!) come fa a volte (mi ha dato anche questa gonna molto carina) e l'ho indossato diversi anni. Ma questa mattina l'ho presa dal cambio di stagione ancora molto disorganizzata e mi sembrava assolutamente in-indossabile così. Poi ho preso la mia collana di semi di melone per scoprire che il filo si era rotto e sono caduti dappertutto i semi. Quindi ho indossato una collana che mi ha fatto mia figlia. Sono tornata a casa e ho passato la mattinata a rifare sia gonna che collana, tra altri progetti. Molto migliorata la gonna quando sono riuscita da casa!

That morning I brought the kids to school dressed one way and picked them up another way. My sister gave me this skirt that didn't fit her anymore (go figure, it was too big for her and sometimes is still too tight for me!) as she sometimes does (she also gave me this very cute skirt) and I wore it for a few years. But that morning I pulled it out from my summer skirts that I still hadn't put away in my wardrobe for the season and it suddenly seemed completely unwearable as it was. Then I took out my melon seed necklace only to discover that the string had broken and the seeds fell everywhere. So I put on a necklace that my daughter made for me. I got back home and spent the morning redoing both skirt and necklace, among other projects. The skirt looked a whole lot better when I left the house again!

May 10:
Sul gruppo flickr di Me-Made-May '13 ci sono state le votazioni per temi per i venerdì di maggio. Il tema di questo giorno è stato "lo spazio per cucire, lavorare ai ferri, creare". La mia stanza dove lavoro è configurata in un modo che la rende molto difficile da fotografare. Quindi ecco solo una parte: la parete con una sistemazione che abbiamo fatto noi recentemente. Si tratta di una sistema di tubi di aluminio che si tagliano a misura e che si fissano con delle giunte di acciao. Occupa tutto un lato e su questo sono riuscita a sistemare molti dei miei materiali, sia per il cucito che per il riciclo creativo, soprattutto nelle scatole per la frutta e verdura che molti fruttivendoli buttano. Sotto c'è una parte della vecchia cucina che stava in casa nostra che abbiamo fatto riverniciare. Questo era il lavello, quindi abbiamo tolto la parte di sopra e messo invece una grande lastra di marmo recuperato da un tavolo. In giro un po' di confusione (molto moderata, devo confessare): cartamodelli per gli assorbenti lavabili, tubi di carta igienica per futuri progetti, una confezione di tinta per stoffe...

On the flickr group of Me-Made-May '13 participants voted for Friday themes. The theme for this day was "Sewing, Knitting, Creating Space." My work space is set up in a way that it's pretty hard to photograph. So here's just one part: a wall with a shelving system that we recently set up ourselves. It's a system of aluminum tubes which are cut to size and connected with special steel grip things. It takes up a whole wall and I've managed to organize a very large part of my materials, both sewing and upcycling, mostly in fruit crates that most greengrocers here throw away. Below the shelving is part of the old kitchen that was in our apartment before moving in that we got repainted. This was the sink, so we took off the top part and instead put on a big slab of marble taken from an old table. There's a bit of a mess (pretty limited, I admit): cloth pad patterns, toilet paper tubes for future projects, a box of fabric dye...

May 11:
Questa foto l'abbiamo scattata nel nostro cortile, davanti ad una pianta di alloro e un muro di tufo, la pietra vulcanica così tipica delle zone napoletane.

May 12:
Auguri, mamme! Per la festa della mamma, siamo andati in mattinata a Sant'Agata dei Goti, un borgo storico costruito su un vallone bellissimo.

Happy mother's day! To celebrate, we spent the morning in Sant'Agata dei Goti, a historical town built on the edge of a beautiful gorge.

Faceva un po' freschetto, quindi ci siamo vestiti un po' più pesantemente.
