amo le scatole di cartone.
i just love cardboard boxes.

anche tu, no? sono così versatili, così recuperabili e riciclabili, così... gratis.

si possono usare in tanti modi per giocare. ad esempio, invece di comprare la lavatrice di plastica che voleva mia figlia, l'abbiamo creata noi da una scatola. ho tagliato io la porta e il buco dove inserire il tubo di cartone per aprirla. lei ha disegnato tutti i bottoni e ci ha giocato per ore e ore (anche aggiungendo altri disegni con la lucidalabbra). e non solo lei. è diventata anche un posto preferito della nostra cara amica felina, macchia. purtroppo non ho più le altre foto di quel progetto perché sono rimaste nella scheda della macchina fotografica rotta che l'assistenza non mi ha più riconsegnato dopo circa 10 mesi. (ottimo servizio, eh?)

you can play with them in so many ways. for example, instead of buying the plastic washing machine that my daughter wanted, we made it ourselves from a box. i cut out the door and the hole to slip in the cardboard tube handle. she drew all the buttons and knobs and played with it for hours and hours (also drawing a little more with lipgloss). and not just she. it became a favorite hangout for our dear feline friend, macchia, too. unfortunately i don't have any other photos of the project because they are still in the card of our broken camera that the repair people still haven't given back to us after about 10 months. (now that's service, huh?)

il bello è che non c'è neanche bisogno di fare qualcosa di complicato. invece di fare un garage fighissimo che deve creare un adulto, si può fare come il figlio di una mia amica (grazie a katie per la foto!). qui c'è un'altra raccolta di idee fighe per le scatole di cartone. anche noi abbiamo fatto un letto per bambole, ma molto meno elegante di quello di quest'ultimo link. abbiamo solo tolto la parte superiore della scatola, messo dentro una copertina e tante bambole e peluche si sono riposati dentro. (di nuovo, niente foto!)

the great thing is that you don't even need to do anything that complicated. instead of making the super cool garage that an adult has to create, you can do what my friend's son did (thanks, katie, for the picture!). here there's another collection of cool cardboard box ideas. we made a doll bed, too, but much less fancy than the one on this link. we just cut off the top part of the box, popped in a blanket and loads of dolls and stuffed animals have rested in it. (once again, no pictures!)

se hai una scatolina piccola, perché non coprirla di carta recuperata delle uova di pasqua, fissarla alla parete con lo scotch di carta e fare...

if you have a little box, why not cover it with paper salvaged from one of those huge european easter eggs, stick it to the wall with masking tape and make...

è ottima per chi spesso riceve pesci per posta. (quello è un pesce che ho fatto per mia sorella circa cento anni fa. ne ha ritrovato un paio fra le decine che le avevo fatto.)

it comes in handy for those who often receive fish in the mail. (i made that fish for my sister about one hundred years ago. she found a couple out of the dozens i'd made her god knows where.)

e se hai una scatolone grande, perché non fare una casetta da gioco come abbiamo fatto noi quasi tre anni fa?

and if you have a really big box, why not make a play house like we did nearly three years ago?

quella casetta è stata talmente amata da tutti i bimbi che sono entrati a casa nostra, che si era distrutta. ho dovuto riparare non so quante volte il tetto crollato, riattaccare il camino e sostituire il tubo della carta igienica-pomello. la porta si è piegata talmente tanto che non si riusciva più a restare chiusa. nel tempo le pareti erano stati tappezzate da sticker di hello kitty. e alla fine, è stata sepolta da e riempito con il casino della camera da letto dei bimbi. finalmente l'ho tolta e l'ho messa nel pianerottolo per schiacciarla e metterla nel bidone della carta da riciclare. ma i bimbi l'hanno riscoperta e non hanno più smesso di giocarci. fino al punto che...

this house has been so loved by all the kids that have put foot in our home, that it had completely fallen apart. gosh knows how many times i've had to repair the collapsed roof, reattach the chimney and substitute the toilet paper tube-handle. the door got folded up so much that it wouldn't stay closed anymore. over time, the walls got completely wallpapered with hello kitty stickers. and lastly, it got buried by and filled up with the crazy mess in the kids' room. i finally just took out it and put it on our landing to flatten it and bring to the paper recycling bin. but the kids then rediscovered it and haven't stopped playing with it since. until...

...ci ho potuto giocare finalmente anch'io! prima non ci entravo per la porta, ma ora sì! (sì, vedete bene, quella è la mia faccia nella finestra a sinistra e il ginocchio/la gamba in quella a destra.)

...i could finally play in it too! before i couldn't fit in through the door, but now i can! (yes, you're seeing correctly: that's my face in the left window and my knee/leg in the right one.)

ci hanno giocato talmente tanto che finalmente si è aperto tutto un lato! vedete che non c'è bisogno di spendere una cifra per cose di plastica per divertirsi? evviva la semplicità!

they played with it so much that one who side finally burst open! do you see how there's no need to spend anything for plastic stuff in order to have fun? long live simplicity!
