ruches copri-macchie / stain-covering ruffles

non ci posso credere...avevo quasi finito questo post lungo, su cui avevo lavorato molto...e poi si è impazzito firefox, e l'ho perso. cerco di sopprimere tutte le male parole che vorrei dire (soprattutto perché sto allattando il mio piccolo mentre scrivo queste parole) e riscrivo, ma con molto meno parole!! allora, ho già scritto di come si è macchiata una maglietta bianca di mia figlia per la scuola. lo so, non si vedono le macchie nella foto sotto, ma ci sono, eccome!

i can't believe it...i'd almost finished translating this long post, which i'd spent quite a bit of time on...and firefox went nuts and i lost it. i'm trying to suppress all the swearing i'd like to do (mostly because i'm nursing my little guy as i type this) and am re-doing it, but with much fewer words!! so, i'd already written about how one of my daughter's white school t-shirts got stained. i know, you can't tell from this photo, but they are definitely there!

sono stata ispirata dalle ruches che ho visto tanto online, as esempio qui e qui, e le ho messe un po' insieme a questa idea. ma di quale stoffa creare le ruches? ho pescato nelle mie buste di rimasuglie di stoffe:

i was inspired by the many ruffle ideas i'd seen online, such as here and here and i sort of put those together with this idea. but what fabric to use for the ruffles? i fished around in my mega bags of scraps and found:

sì, confesso che sono state le mie mutande, che si sono definitivamente distrutte quando le usavo durante la mia ultima gravidanza. dunque, le ho stirate e tagliate a strisce di circa 1,5 cm di larghezza.

yes, i confess that those were indeed my undies, which were destroyed once and for all when i wore them during my last pregnancy. so, i ironed them and cut them into strips about 1.5 cm wide.

ho disposto le strisce sulla maglietta per creare il disegno voluto, cercando di coprire le macchie.

i laid them out on the shirt to create the design i wanted, trying to cover the stains.

 

e poi ho disegnato il disegno con la penna delebile.

and then i drew on the design with a water soluble pen.

mi sono dimenticata di fare le foto di questa parte, solo quando ho fatto i fiorellini. si fa un punto lungo per tutta la lunghezza della striscia nel centro (non al lato come in queste foto), facendo il nodo solo da un lato.

i forgot to take pictures of this part, just when i made the flowers. sew a basting stitch down the center of the whole strip (not on the side, like in these pictures), knotting at only one end.

poi si fa scivolare la striscia lungo il filo per creare le ruches.

then you slide the strip along the thread to create the ruffles.

poi ho cominciato a spillare le ruches sul disegno. ho piegato le estremità delle strisce sotto.

then i started pinning the ruffles along the design. i folded the ends of the strips under.

ho cucito le ruches a mano a punto indietro, anche se si può fare a macchina. dopo che sia tutto cucito, si possono togliere i fili del punto lungo.

i sewed the ruffles on by hand with a backstitch, even though you can do it by machine. after it's all sewn on, you can pull out the basting stitches.

poi i fiorellini. ho usato una sola striscia per ogni fiore facendo nello stesso modo che per le ruches, ma ora si deve fare il punto lungo sul un lato della striscia, non al centro. (ora potete guardare le foto in alto!) poi si avvolge la ruche intorno a se stesso e si cuce la parte in basso per tenerlo insieme. (io ho usato lo stesso filo per il punto lungo senza tagliarlo per cucirlo sia in questa parte che per attaccarlo alla maglietta.)

then the flowers. i used one strip for each flower using the same method as for the ruffles, but now sewing the basting stitch along one side of the strip, not at the center. (now you can look at the pictures above!) then wrap the ruffle around itself and sew the bottom part of it together. (i used the same thread as for the basting without cutting it off, and then used it again to sew the flower onto the shirt.)

niente più macchie a vista e una bimba molto felice! (anche se era già felice prima della foto, grazie al gelato al cioccolato che le ha comprato papà...)

no more stains visible and a very happy little girl! (although she actually was already happy before the picture, thanks to the chocolate ice cream daddy got her...)

ma purtroppo ho scoperto un fatto spiacevole. praticamente non si deve mai lavare un capo con questa tecnica. guardate che fine hanno fatto i miei bei fiorellini e ruches! devo cercare di rimediare con il ferro. vediamo che succede!

however i discovered an unfortunate fact. it seems that you can't ever wash a garment embellished in this manner. look what happened to my poor flowers and ruffles! i'll have to try to sort it out with the iron. we'll see what happens!

mi sono appena resa conto che una volta ho creato delle mutandine per mia figlia da una mia vecchia maglietta, e ora ho fatto una maglietta per mia figlia con delle mie vecchie mutandine! ahh, l'ironia!

i just realized that one time i created undies for my daughter from one of my old t-shirts, and now i made a t-shirt for my daughter with some of my old undies. oh, the irony of it!
