da tappettini a timbri - from puzzle mats to stamps

il mese scorso ho visto questo post da pane, amore e creatività e sono rimasta molto sorpresa: la plastica morbida di quei tappetti e tappettini puzzle con le lettere e i numeri contiene sostanze dannose per la salute! (per altre informazioni, guardate qui e qui.) che impressione…mi figlia ne ha ben due di questi puzzle: uno grande che le ho comprato quando aveva un anno per camminarci sopra, come mi aveva consigliato la sua fisioterapista (mia figlia ha fatto la fisioterapia ogni giorno per diversi mesi per un ritardo motorio) e uno piccolo che le ho comprato da usare sui tanti aerei che abbiamo preso viaggiando l’estate scorso.

last month i saw this post on pane, amore e creatività and it had some bad news: the foam used for those little or huge letter and number puzzle mats contains toxic substances! (for more information, in italian, sorry, you can look here and here.) yikes! and to think that my little girl has two of these things: a big one that i got her when she was one because her physical therapist had suggested i have her practice walking on it (my daughter did physical therapy every day for many months because of a gross motor delay) and a little one i bought her to use on the many airplanes we took travelling last summer.

per fortuna, linda ci ha segnalato non solo la notizia di questo problema ma anche una soluzione divertente per non buttare via i puzzle di dimensione piccola: farne dei timbri! questa idea mi ha subito attirata perché a casa nostra si usano molto (e avevo già scritto su come fare timbri fai di te qui e qui). ma la cosa che non mi convinceva dell’idea originale era l’uso di cubi di legno come sostegno per le lettere e numeri. e ho pensato in un modo ancora più ricicloso: con i tappi!

luckily, linda let us all know not only of the danger lurking in these toys but also of a fun solution to not have to dump the little puzzles in the trash: make them into stamps! this idea immediately appealed to me because we love stamps in our house (and i’d already written about how to make do-it-yourself stamps here and here). but the thing that didn’t totally convince me about the original idea was the use of wooden blocks as stamp backers. so i thought of a way to make this project even more recylcing-friendly: use bottle caps! 

da un bel po’ di tempo ci siamo liberati di bottiglie di plastica comprando l’acqua minerale in bottiglie di vetro che vengono consegnate e poi ritirate. (vorrei tanto comprare un depurificatore per il rubinetto, ma abbiamo problemi con depositi nel serbatoio della nostra palazzina, e quindi purtroppo non è cosa.) stavo collezionando i tappi per fare un altro progetto ricicloso (di cui scriverò nel futuro) e avevo già a volontà per questi timbri. veramente sarebbero stati molto meglio i tappi di plastica dalle bottiglie del latte, ma non ne abbiamo perché compriamo solo i latti vegetali che sono in tetrapack (anche di questa materiale ho delle idee riciclose!).

we’ve been free of horrible plastic water bottles for a while now by having water in glass bottles delivered to our door and the empties collected to reuse. (i would love to buy a water purifier for our kitchen faucet, but there are issues with strange deposits in our apartment building’s water tank, so it still wouldn’t be very healthy to drink.) i was holding onto the caps for another recycling project (which i’ll write about sometime in the future) and i had plenty extra for these stamps. it really would’ve been better to use those bigger plastic caps that here in italy you find on bottles of milk but i didn’t have any because we only get non-dairy milks which come in those awful tetrapacks (i have some ideas of how to recycle those, too!).

prima stacca la lettera (o numero) dal puzzle e metti la colla sulla parte in alto e attaccalo al tappo. io ho usato il mio amato UHU extra gel, una colla che sembra funzionare su tutto. se usi una colla così su una superficie non assorbente (tipo i tappi di metallo) fa così: metti la colla sul pezzo poi mettilo contro il tappo in modo di spalmare la colla anche sul tappo. staccali per far asciugare un pochino la colla (basta il tempo di cominciare a spalmare la colla su un altro pezzo e tappo) e poi attacca i due pezzi di nuovo. se la colla si è asciutto un poco, si attacca molto meglio.

first of all, take the letter or number from the puzzle, put a bit of glue on the top side and attach it to the cap. i used my beloved UHU extra gel, a glue which seems to work on everything. if you use a glue like this on a non-absorbent surface (such as a metal cap) do this: put the glue on the piece and then rub it on the bottle cap to spread the glue out nicely on both. take the piece off and let the glue dry a little bit. just the time it takes to do this again with another letter and cap is enough. then put the letter back on again. if the glue had dried a little, it will stick much better.
 
ricorda che la forma sarà al contrario sul timbro. se la metti nel verso giusto, avrai un risultato timbrato che si dovrà leggere nello specchio, stile leonardo da vinci.

don’t forget that the letter or number will be backwards on the cap. if you put it the right side up, you’ll get a finished stamped print that you’ll have to read in the mirror, à la leonardo da vinci. 

puoi anche usare gli spazi degli interni delle lettere. l’interno della lettera O è buono per un punto (o un punto esclamativo insieme alla lettera I) e l’interno della lettera Q può diventare una virgola.

you can also use the spaces inside the letters. the inside of the O is good for a period (or an exclamation point with the I) and the inside of the Q makes a good comma. 

mentre fai asciugare completamente la colla, puoi guardare quanto sono belli i tuoi nuovi timbri! e quando si sono asciutti i timbri, divertiti!

while you’re waiting for the glue to dry all the way, you can look at just how cool your new stamps are! and when they’re dry, have a blast!

 
ora bisogna solo capire che fare delle forme intorno alle lettere rimaste e i tappetti puzzle grandi. credo che farò una specie di bachecha di quelle fatte normalmente con il sughero. qualche altra idea?

now i just need to figure out what to do with the shapes left that were outside the letters and the big puzzle. i think i’m going to make a sort of corkboard with the big pieces. any other ideas?

19 marzo: inzio di speranza? - 19 march: the first ray of hope?

oggi, il 19 marzo, è un giorno importante. non solo perché è la festa del papà (auguri a tutti voi papà!). non solo perché è la festa di san giuseppe (auguri a tutti voi giuseppi e giuseppine!). è importante perché il 19 marzo 1994 è stato ammazzato don peppe diana, prete che predicava, parlava e scriveva contro le mafie, proprio il giorno del suo onomastico all’interno della sua chiesa a casal di principe mentre si preparava per celebrare la messa. ovviamente dalla camorra. chiunque ha letto gomorra se la ricorderà.

today, march 19, is a very important day. not just because here in italy it’s father’s day (happy father’s day, all you dads!). nor because it’s the feast of saint joseph (the father of all fathers. auguri to all you josephs, josephinas, giuseppes and giuseppinas!). it’s important because march 19, 1994 don peppe diana, a priest who openly spoke and wrote against all mafias, on his saint’s day, was murdered while he was getting ready to celebrate mass inside his church in casal di principe, hub of activity of the camorra, the neapolitan mafia. anyone who read gomorra will remember it.

16 anni dopo, 19 marzo 2010, si festeggia per la prima volta un festa regionale ufficiale in memoria di don peppe. tutte le scuole nella regione di campania sono chiuse. a me non importa minimamente del ponte, ma sono soddisfattissima per questo inizio di una festa annuale riconosciuta al livello della regione che denuncia questo assassinio e la camorra in generale, una festa importantissima. mi dà la speranza che forse pian pian pianissimo qualcosina comincia a cambiare in campania. perché la vita qui è molto pesante. perché, a parte gli omicidi di tante persone innocenti, sono molti gli aspetti della vita quotidiana di tutti noi in cui si sente il peso della camorra. ed è ora, dopo troppi troppi anni, di cambiare qualcosa. speriamo bene.

16 years later, march 19, 2010, an official regional holiday in memory of don peppe is being celebrated for the first time. all the schools in campania (the region of southern italy comprising the provinces of naples, caserta, salerno, benevento and avellino) are closed today. i myself couldn’t care less about the long weekend, but i am very heartened at this new annual holiday denouncing this assassination and the camorra in general, an incredibly important occasion. it gives me hope that perhaps slowly slowly slowly something teeny tiny might be starting to change. 

people who don’t live here generally don’t realize that the camorra and all mafias are VERY real. i cringe every time i see somebody on facebook who plays mafia wars, because they just have no idea  how many people REALLY are killed. or how entwined the mafia is in local and national (and probably international) politics. or in how many ways the activities of regular people are suppressed. or how many things in the day-to-day lives of we innocent bystanders are affected by the camorra. life here in southern italy can get very hard because of it. and it’s time, after way too many years, to start changing something. let’s keep our fingers crossed.

stencil su magliette con freezer paper - freezer paper stenciling on t-shirts

ho visto molti tutorial su questa tecnica in blog statunitensi e lo volevo provare da parecchio tempo. ho fatto una prima prova su una maglietta di mia figlia usando  un’immagine che ho trovato con google images di una audio cassetta (perché non capiva cosa fosse il walkman su una maglietta di mio marito, cosa che mi sembra assurda, soprattutto in una famiglia che ama la musica come la nostra!). l’unico problema è che l’ho messo un po’ troppo in basso sulla maglietta, ma non è grave.

i’ve seen a lot of tutorials on this tecnique on american blogs and i’ve been wanting to try it out for a long time. i first tried it out with one of my daughter’s t-shirts using an image of an audio cassette that i found with google images. (she had no idea what the walkman on one of my husband’s t-shirts was, which seemed absolutely crazy, especially in a family that loves music as much as ours!) the only problem is that i positioned it a bit low on the shirt, but it’s no biggie.


secondo me, è una grandissima figata e sono diventata subito stencil-dipendente. visto che sta per arrivare la festa del papà, ho deciso di fargli una maglietta con un ritratto di lui fatto dalla nostra carissima sofia. e non poteva mancare fare un bel tutorial!

in my opinion, this technique is insanely cool and i immediately became addicted. seeing as father’s day is coming up this friday (at least in italy it is!), i decided to make my hubby a t-shirt with a portrait our darling sofia drew of him. and i couldn’t not make up a tutorial!

prima però, voglio parlare un poco di freezer paper. si tratta di una carta che assomiglia molto alla carta del forno, ma che ha una solo superficie plastificata. negli stati uniti si trova nei supermercati insieme alla carta del forno, la pellicola alimentare e la carta stagnola. purtroppo, in italia non l’ho mai trovata. ma ho trovato un tutorial da una italiana per un altro uso di questa carta che spiega che si può anche usare la carta del macellaio. non lo so perché oramai non compro più la carne da un bel po’ di tempo. l’importante è che un lato è plastificato e l’altro lato è come carta normale.

before, though, i’d like to say a few words about freezer paper. it’s very similar to wax paper, but it’s waxy only on one side. in the US you can find it in the supermarket with all the other wax paper, aluminum foil and plastic wrap. unfortunately, i’ve never found it in italy, though i found a tutorial by an italian blogger for another use of this paper who explains that you can also use the paper you get from the butcher. i don’t know because i haven’t bought meat in quite a while. the important thing is that one side is waxy and the other is like normal paper.

questa tecnica crea dipendenze. dopo che la fai una volta, nessun capo della tua guardaroba sarà al sicuro!

***WARNING*** 

this technique is highly addictive. after you try it once, none of your clothes will be safe! 

1. prima di tutto, scegli un immagine. si può usare un disegno semplice o fare una ricerca google immagini “stampino (quello che vuoi)”. questo è il disegno originale di mia figlia.

1. first of all, choose an image. you can use a simple drawing or do a google images search for “(whatever you want) stencil.” this is my daughter’s original drawing. 

2. se hai l’immagine cartacea, taglia un pezzo di freezer paper più grande del immagine e attaccalo al disegno con il lato plastificato in giù con lo scotch di carta. poi ricalca il disegno con la matita. puoi anche mettere il tutto contro la finestra per poterlo visualizzare meglio. se invece hai un disegno sul computer, usa un programma per visualizzare le immagini e ingrandisci alla dimensione migliore per il tuo progetto. poi metti la freezer paper direttamente sul monitor (inclinando il monitor, se possibile) per ricalcare.

2. if you have a hard copy of the image, cut a piece of freezer paper a bit larger than the image and use masking tape to attach it on top, the waxy side downwards. trace the image onto the freezer paper. you can also put it against a window to see better. on the other hand, if you have an image on the computer, use a visualization program to enlarge it to the right size for your project. then put the freezer paper directly on the monitor (tilting the monitor, if possible) to trace it.

 
3. ecco il disegno ricalcato. è un buon idea riempire le parti che vuoi che si colorano con la matita in modo che non si fanno errori molto fastidiosi mentre si taglia. non l’ho fatto con questo ritratto, ma l’ho fatto con la cassetta, che era più complicata.

3. here’s the traced image. it’s a good idea to fill in the parts that you want to be painted with pencil so you won’t mess up when you cut it out. i didn’t do this with this portrait, but i did do it with the cassette tape, which was more complicated.

4. ora si taglia. usa un taglierino molto tagliente e togli le parti colorati con la matita che diventeranno l’immagine stampata. se hai un’immagine minimente complicata, rimarranno delle “isole”, ad esempio, nel ritratto qui sopra, i bianchi degli occhi, il viso, le orecchie e altri componenti piccolissimi del disegno. mi raccomando, non buttarli! mettili da parte, disponendoli su una superficie come vanno nel disegno, in modo che li puoi prendere quando ti servono e riuscirai a ricordare come devono andare.

4. now you cut. use a very sharp box cutter or whatever other cutting tool you have and cut out the parts that you filled in with pencil which will become the printed image. if your image is at all complex, there will be little “islands” left, for example, in the portrait above, the whites of the eyes, face, ears and other tiny components. don’t throw them away! put them aside, preferably laying them out on a flat surface as they go in the image so you can take them as you need them and remember where they actually go.

5. prepara l’asse da stiro e il ferro. metti il ferro sul setting più caldo, senza vapore. metti la maglietta precedentemente lavata sull’asse e metti il primo pezzo dello stampino (meglio la parte più esterna) dove lo vorrai sulla stoffa, sempre con il lato platificato in giù. quando sei sicura che è posizionato bene, passa il ferro sopra un paio di secondi, fissando la carta alla stoffa.

5. get out your ironing board and iron. put the iron on the hottest setting, without steam. lay out the t-shirt (which you’ve already washed) on the ironing board and put the first part of the stencil (preferably the outermost part) where you want it on the fabric, again with the waxy part down. when you’re sure it’s positioned how you want it, iron it on a few seconds, fixing the paper to the fabric.

 

6. comincia a mettere gli altri pezzetti in posizione, passando il ferro per ogni pezzo. qui il ritratto è un po’ impressionante…

6. start putting the other pieces in place, ironing each one as you go. at this stage, the portrait is a bit freaky looking…  

7. …ma per fortuna quando sono posizionati tutti i pezzi, riconosciamo la nostra immagine. per quei pezzettini piccolini, è molto utile usare una pinzetta per prenderli e posizionarli. quando hai messo tutti quanti, passa di nuovo il ferro da stiro, controllando che tutti i bordi sono attaccati molto bene alla stoffa.

7. …but luckily when everything’s in place, we can once again recognize our image. it really helps to use tweezers to pick up and position the teeny tiny pieces. when everything’s in place, iron the whole thing again, making sure that all the edges are well-attached to the fabric.


8. prendi i colori per tessuti. io ho usato quelli di marabu, che sono a base di acqua e di buona qualità. taglia un po’ di carta del forno e mettila sotto la parte della maglietta con lo stampino in modo che il colore non macchia l’altro lato della maglietta o quello che hai sotto (nel mio caso, sempre l’asse da stiro).

8. get out your fabric paint. i used these ones by marabu, which are water-based and good quality. cut a piece of regular wax (or freezer) paper and put it under the t-shirt where the stencil is so that the paint doesn’t seep through to the back of the shirt or whatever you have underneath (in my case, still the ironing board).

9. con un pennello rigido, riempi gli spazi della carta con pittura, facendo cura di spalmarla bene e di non andare oltre il bordo esterno della carta (come ho fatto io per sbaglio nella parte sotto il mento del ritratto). se la tua marca di colore ha delle istruzioni particolari, seguile.

9. use a rigid brush to fill in the spaces with paint, being sure to spread it well and not to go over the outer edges of the freezer paper (as i accidentally did under the portrait’s chin). if your brand of fabric paint has specific instructions, follow them.  

10. questa è la parte più difficile: devi aspettare che si asciugi bene. lo so che vorrai vedere com’è venuto l’immagine, ma cerca di resistere! ti conviene aspettare che si asciuga per bene diverse ore e poi addirittura fare una seconda mano, facendo molta attenzione che non ci siano piccoli punti con meno colore e che il colore è steso fino a tutti i bordi degli spazi. poi è meglio che fai asciugare completamente durante la notte, quando speriamo che dormi e non sarai tentata di dare una sbirciatina sotto la carta.

10. this is the hardest part: you need to wait until it’s completely dried. i know you want to see how it came out, but please resist! it’s in your best interest to wait for it to dry for quite a few hours and then even do a second coat, being very careful not to overlook tiny spots without color and that the paint goes all the way to all the edges of the spaces. then it’s best if you let it dry completely during the night, when hopefully you’ll be sleeping and won’t be tempted to peek under the paper.

11. il giorno dopo, o quando sarà completamente asciutto, puoi finalmente togliere la carta. usa le pinzette per i pezzetti più piccoli.

11. the day after, or whenever it’s totally dry, you can finally take off the freezer paper. use your tweezers to remove the smaller pieces. 


12. eccolo! quant’è carino!

12. and there it is! how cute!  

13. ma aspetta un attimo, non hai ancora finito! se cerchi di saltare l’ultimo passo, resterai MOLTO male la prima volta che lavi la maglietta e trovi che i frutti della tua fatica non ci sono più. prima, togli la carta del forno da sotto la maglietta. poi disponi un panno sottile sopra l’immagine e passaci sopra il ferro da stiro caldo senza vapore per 5 minuti, o come specifica il colore che usi tu, per fissare l’immagine.

13. but hold on a second, you’re not done yet! if you try to skip the last step, you’ll be VERY sorry the first time you wash your t-shirt and find that all your efforts have been quite literally washed away. first, remove the wax paper underneath the shirt. then place a thin cloth over the image and iron it on hot without steam for 5 minutes, or however your paint instructs, to fix the image.

14. ora guarda come è venuta bene la tua maglietta e indossala aspettando i tanti complimenti che avrai per un lavoro ben fatto! io non aspetto l’ora di presentare questa maglietta a mio marito per la festa del papà! lo so che sarà contentissimo!

14. now admire how nicely it turned out and wear it expecting all those compliments for your hard work! i can’t wait to give my hubby this shirt for father’s day! i know he’ll be psyched!

appendi tutto fai da te - diy coat rack

avevo un paio di pomelli carini già da 3 anni e sapevo che volevo usarli per fare un appendi abiti piccolo per mia figlia, ma sono un po’ incapace di usare una sega, e quindi rimandavo, rimandavo, rimandavo… e questa settimana, finalmente l’ho fatto!

i’ve had this pair of cute knobs for 3 years and i always knew that i wanted to make my daughter a little coat rack with them, but seeing as i’m a bit useless with a saw, i kept on putting it off…and off…and off…and finally this week i made it!

questo progetto, nonostante le mie paure di tagliare il legno come serviva, è facilissimo e secondo me ogni famiglia ha sempre bisogno di più spazi per appendere i cappotti, sciarpe, borse, ecc. questi pomelli simpatici sono dalla piccola impresa della mamma di una mia amica, ma puoi semplicemente prendere quelli di legno non trattato e dipingerli tu o usare dei pomelli antichi o particolari.

despite my fears of sawing the wood down to the right size, this project is really easy and i’m pretty sure that every family needs more space to hang up their kids’ coats, scarves, bags, etc. these nice little knobs are from my friend’s mother’s business, but you can just get some unfinished wood ones and paint them yourself or use antique or other interesting ones that you have lying around.  

si deve ottenere un pezzo di legno non troppo profondo e fare un foro per ogni pomello che metterai con un trapano. poi si pittura il legno, si avvitano i pomelli dal retro, ed ecco fatto!

you need to get a piece of wood that isn’t too wide and drill a hole for each knob that you’ll be putting on it. then paint the wood, screw on the knobs from the back side of the wood, and there you have it! 
 

probabilmente il modo più intelligente di attaccarlo alla parete sarebbe con i fischer, ma visto che probabilmente dovremmo cambiare il layout della stanzetta fra poco quando arriverà il “letto di bimba grande”, mi scocciava di fare altri buchi grandi nella parete. quindi ho usato quelle cose che si attaccano al retro dei quadri da appendere, e va benissimo così!

i’m sure the most intelligent way to hang it up would be with fischers, but seeing as we’ll probably be changing around the furniture soon with the arrival of the “big girl bed,” i didn’t really feel like making any extra big holes in the walls. so i just used those things that you attach to the back of frames to hang them up. and that works just fine!

donne con le gonne: gruppo di mamme consapevoli - donne con le gonne: mother awareness

ho già scritto parecchie volte del mercatino delle autoproduzioni “la ragnatela” a cui partecipo ogni mese in provincia di napoli. una delle cose che mi piace tanto di questa attività è l’incontro di donne con le gonne.

i’ve already written lots of times about the self-production market “la ragnatela” which i particpate in each month in the province of naples. one of the things i really like about this event is the meeting with donne con le gonne (women with skirts).

si tratta di un gruppo di mamme che non accettano i modi di fare la mamma scontati della nostra società senza pensarci sopra. si parla delle diversi fasi della maternità e le alternative alle pratiche più tradizionali, ad esempio l’uso della fascia portabebè e i pannolini lavabili (o come farne anche a meno del pannolino), il parto alternativo e modi di educazione del bimbo. in più, c’è uno scambio di gioccatoli e vestiti.

this is a group of mothers who refuse to accept the rules and ways of our society without thinking. they exchange ideas regarding the different phases of motherhood and the alternatives to the more traditional practices, such as the use of the baby sling and cloth diapers (or even how to go without diapers at all), alternative birth methods and bringing up children. there is also an exchange of toys and clothing.

 
in più, all’incontro ragnatela di questo mese ci sarà la proiezione del film il rito della nascita, che parla di un parto rispettoso di madre e figlio secondo l’organizzazione mondiale della sanità.

a parte il mercatino dei prodotti artigianali e cibi biologici ci saranno attività per bambini, degustazioni, proiezioni, musica, la presentazione di un gioco da tavola sulla dieta mediterranea e un incontro con donne con le gonne. ci sarò anch’io con i miei prodotti igienici lavabili. chi viene e mi dice di aver visto questo blog potrà avere uno sconto del 10%!

ringrazio tantissimo rachele, anche conosciuta come poppy, per questo premio! mi ha anche fatto dei bellissimi complimenti che non mi sento per niente di meritare! rachele fa (e vende!) delle borse favolose e sto aspettando che faccia un bel tutorial sul tingere le stoffe con colori naturali (lei riesce a creare dei colori spettacolari!), quindi andate a vedere il suo blog!

grembiule per mollette - clothespin apron

sembra che comincia la primavera, che bello! il sole mi fa un bene incredibile e l’arrivo della mia stagione preferita mi mette sempre di buon umore. questo fine settimana di sole ho passato tanto tempo fuori al balcone con le mani nei vasi delle piante e a stendere tantissimo bucato.

it looks as if spring is just starting here in southern italy…yah! i just love the sun and the arrival of my favorite season makes me feel great. i spent a lot of time this past sunny weekend out on the balcony with my hands covered with potting soil and hanging out lots of laundry.  

ho già scritto del mio amore per l’atto di stendere il bucato, ma mi scocciava abbastanza piegarmi sempre per prendere le mollette per i panni dal cesto in cui le tenevo. poi mi è arrivato uno dei libri che ho ordinato poco fa, one-yard wonders, con 101 progetti da fare con un solo yard (più o meno un metro) di stoffa. per iniziare, ho fatto il progetto per un grembiulino con una tasca grande davanti dove tenere le mollette di questa stoffa che mi piace tantissimo che ho preso durante l’ultimo viaggio negli USA. il risultato è comodissimo (anche se purtroppo quando è caricato di mollette, diventa tutto gonfio ed è un po’ meno carino), ma sono rimasta un po’ male perché il progetto era sbagliato e quindi non è uscito perfettamente. questo libro ha un sacco di cose carinissime da fare, ma sembra che il progetto che ho fatto io non è l’unico con problemi. infatti, il sito ha un elenco di diverse modifiche del libro. peccato!
**update: ho notato che ora ci sono le modifiche per questo progetto sul sito.**

i’ve already written about how much i love hanging out laundry, but i didn’t find it very comfortable always having to bend over to get the clothespins out of the basket i keep them in. then one of the many books i recently ordered arrived, one-yard wonders, with 101 projects to make with just one yard (more or less a meter) of fabric. to start out, i decided to make the granny’s clothespin apron with some fabric that i got my last trip to the states and that i love so much. the end result is very convenient (though it’s unfortunately not quite as cute when it’s full of clothespins), but i was pretty annoyed because the pattern and instructions had some mistakes and so it didn’t come out perfectly. this book has a lot of really cool projects and ideas, but it seems that the one i did wasn’t the only one with mistakes. the publisher’s website has a list of corrections to the book. what a shame! 
**update: i now saw that there are the corrections for this pattern on the website.**
